What We Do
Riding horses requires focus and builds strength, confidence, and empathy. These positive influences keep adults and children away from destructive choices and changes lives for good. Changing Strides works with trusted health and human services organizations in and around Orange County to bring groups and individuals to our barn. During their sessions, our clients learn to ride and care for horses.
What Is Equine Therapy?
Equine Therapy (also known as Horse Therapy) is a type of experiential therapy that includes interactions with horses. It supports healing and growth in persons with PTSD, ADD, Anxiety, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Dementia, Depression, Developmental Delay, Genetic Syndromes (such as Down Syndrome), traumatic brain injuries, behavioral issues, abuse issues, and many other mental health problems.

Riding lessons
Riding horses requires focus and builds strength, confidence and empathy. These positive influences keep adults and children away from destructive choices and changes lives for good. By donating to this cause we can increase the number of adults and children who are able to benefit from the healing horses have to offer.
Equine Psychotherapy
Horses are highly intuitive and have a unique historical relationship with humans that lends itself to a thereapy setting. According to an article in Behavioral Healthcare Executive, “the value of equine programs are gaining popularity, particularly for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and autism.” Offering these programs at the Orange County Fairgrounds Equestrian Center provides convenient access to those who will benefit.
Survivors of Domestic abuse
Both riding lessons and equine psychotherapy are available to our clients who have survived domestic abuse. Horses have a unique ability to help humans face their fears and heal from past trauma.
Veteran Outreach
Both riding lessons and equine psychotherapy are available to our veteran clients suffering from PTSD. Horses are extremly empathetic and have a unique ability to help humans heal from past trauma.
At-Risk Youth
Our at-risk youth clients will primarily receive riding lessons unless qualified for other services. Horses are great positive influences and can help youth to develop good habits and strong coping skills.
